Excellence in Education

A significant part of University Surgical Associates (USA) mission is to educate surgical residents in the ethics, art and science of surgery.

Through collaboration with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine (UTHSC) as its surgical department faculty, the UTHSC/USA residency program, which includes five clinical years of surgery and one year of clinical research, graduates four chief general surgery residents and fellows in critical care and vascular surgery each year.

Graduating residents regularly obtain the most competitive surgical fellowships available nationally or easily transition into the practice of surgery upon graduation. Many surgeons and surgical specialists practicing in the region have trained in the UTHSC/USA program.

Our Research

University Surgical Associates (USA) surgeons, all of whom are faculty members of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine (UTHSC), are committed to training tomorrow’s surgeons today. Clinical research is the cornerstone of that effort.

The ultimate goal is to advance medical and surgical knowledge through local, regional and national presentations and publications. To achieve this goal, UTHSC/USA surgical faculty are the primary investigators in clinical research studies in all areas of clinical services offered.

With the brightest minds involved and clinical research being the scientific vehicle for that success, UTHSC/USA surgical faculty have cultivated knowledge and implemented improvements in order to ensure that the most recent advances in surgical care are provided to our patients.
