The Vascular Center at USA is comprised of three groups; Vascular Diagnostic
Services, the Vein Center at USA and USA Special Procedures.
All USA vascular surgeons are Board certified in both general and vascular surgery
and provide comprehensive care for patients with vascular disease.
This involves the detection and diagnosis of vascular disease by non-invasive
ultrasound and arteriography, with correction by open surgical reconstruction or
by the use of the latest minimally invasive endovascular techniques.
The spectrum of services include the management of aneurysm disease, carotid
artery disorders, renal and mesenteric vascular disease, and peripheral arterial
disease of the arms and legs.

Additionally, the wide range of venous disorders from varicosities to chronic
venous ulcers are covered through our clinics. At present 60%-70% of patients
can receive a minimally invasive endovascular option for their care of their arterial
or venous disorder at USA Vascular. Often, this allows same day surgery or early
discharge, minimal pain, and fast recovery.
USA introduced its vascular lab, Vascular Diagnostic Services (VDS), in 1982 becoming the first vascular lab of its kind in the region. VDS remains the only vascular lab in the area accredited in four areas of testing; extracranial,
arterial, venous and visceral. The lab also requires all technologists to be registered in vascular ultrasound through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Non-invasive procedures offered include carotid ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound for the renal circulation, mesenteric circulation, aortic aneurysms and iliac circulation, arterial studies for extremity arterial circulation and bypass graft, and stent or aortic endograft surveillance.
USA also offers venous ultrasound for deep vein thrombosis or venous insufficiency and pre-op vein mapping for graft placement and dialysis fistula placement.
Invasive procedures offered at USA's Vein Center include endovenous laser-ablation therapy (EVLT) and sclerotherapy, while fistulagrams, arteriograms and venograms are offered at USA Special Procedures.
USA's Vascular group is also heavily involved in ongoing externally funded vascular research in the form of clinical research studies. A vascular study currently being conducted at Erlanger involves a carotid artery stent trial. Device manufacturers often fund studies for surgical research at Erlanger to find out more about such procedures as abdominal aortic aneurysm endovascular repair or the use of lasers in occlusive disease.
