VDS Studies
USA's Vascular Diagnostic Services (VDS) offers all studies related to diagnosing vascular disease and follow-up of vascular surgical procedures.
Follow-up exams are extremely important in the care of vascular patients. Adherence to these follow-up protocols helps the vascular surgeon in maintaining the patency of surgical procedures, and in finding and fixing problems before they become severe or non-treatable.
The following areas of vascular ultrasound and doppler imaging are offered through VDS.
CAROTID ULTRASOUND
Follow-up of carotid stents and carotid endarterectomy
TRANSCRANIAL DOPPLER
Evaluate intracranial circulation
ARTERIAL STUDIES – UPPER EXTREMITIES
Evaluate circulation in the arms and subclavian/axillary arteries
Determine the possibility of thoracic outlet syndrome
Follow-up of upper extremity grafts/stents
ARTERIAL STUDIES – LOWER EXTREMITIES
Evaluate circulation in the lower extremities
Follow-up of lower extremity grafts/stents/angioplasty
VENOUS ULTRASOUND
Determine presence/absence of deep vein thrombosis or superficial vein thrombosis
Determine presence/absence of venous insufficiency due to varicose veins
Saphenous vein mapping to evaluate the superficial veins for possible use in bypass graft surgery
PRE-OP MAPPING FOR DIALYSIS PATIENTS
Pre-operative assessment of the arterial/venous systems of the upper extremities to determine patency for fistula placement
AORTIC ULTRASOUND
To assess presence of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
To assess patency of aortic endografts for repair of AAA
To determine patency of aortic grafts and/or iliac grafts/stents
VISCERAL ULTRASOUND
To evaluate presence of renal artery disease
To evaluate presence of mesenteric disease
