Endovenous Laser Therapy
Endovenous Laser Therapy, or EVLT, is an out-patient procedure performed in comfort and convenience at USA's Surgical Specialties Building, with patients resuming normal activities soon after the procedure.
Following local anesthesia, a laser fiber is inserted through a small needle hole in the skin into the vein that runs along the inner thigh. As the laser is activated, the vein collapses.
EVLT quickly treats the large varicose veins and can take from 30–90 minutes to perform. The energy from the laser irritates the walls of the veins and causes them to decrease in size and eventually disappear. The vein is no longer able to carry blood through it. These veins are superficial and not vitally important for the transfer of blood to the heart.
