USA's Dr. S. Clark Kennedy Honored by Chattanooga Medical Society

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, Medical Foundation of Chattanooga, and Project Access, in conjunction with WDEF-News 12, are recognizing local physicians by saluting ten honorees for Doctor’s Day Appreciation Week during the last two weeks of March. The honorees, including University Surgical Associates' Dr. S. Clark Kennedy, will be selected from nominations submitted by local residents. (Click here to view Dr. Kennedy's nomination letter.)

Dr. Kennedy, board certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), specializes in general surgery and breast services. He joined University Surgical Associates in 2004 and is an assistant professor of surgery, Department of Surgery, for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga.

In addition to the 10 physicians selected for the WDEF salute, all nominated physicians will be honored at a special Doctor’s Day reception on Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at the Chattanoogan.

National Doctors’ Day provides a time for people to show appreciation to the doctors who care for them or their loved ones.  The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Ga., on the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery.  The U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1958. In 1990, Congress established May 30 each year as the National Doctors Day.

This year’s observance also salutes the over 600 physicians who have volunteered to care for low-income uninsured residents of our community through Project Access.

Doctor’s Day is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust.
