USA's Dr. Phillip Burns Nominated to Inaugural Class of "Pink Tie Guys"

The Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure® has announced the names of 12 local businessmen who will make up the inaugural class of Komen “Pink Tie Guys." These men have been selected for this honor because of their personal commitment to support the Komen Mission to put an end to Breast Cancer.  Each “guy” was presented a custom Komen silk pink neck tie designed and imported locally by Matt Wilson of Wilson and Bow during an Affiliate breakfast in late June.

Each will wear their unique Komen Pink Tie to various business events of their own choosing throughout the year. By serving within our community as one of our Affiliate’s honorary “Ambassadors” for Breast Cancer Awareness, the Affiliate believes this simple act, can and will, have profound results in the fight against breast cancer. Each year, the Affiliate will select  additional area businessmen to become a Komen “Pink Tie Guy.”

The 2011 Inaugural Class of Chattanooga Affiliate Komen “Pink Tie Guys” includes; Bill Aiken, Partner, Chambliss Bahner and Stophel, Rex Allen CEO, The Pointe Centre, Roger Brown, Chancellor, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Dr. Phillip Burns, Professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery, University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga, and Chairman of the Board of University Surgical  Associates, Lewis Dyer, President, Marshall Mize Ford, Ron Harr, Consultant, Randall Hebert, Partner, Henderson Hutcherson & McCullough, Bill McCollum, COO, TVA, Darrell Moore, CEO, Parkridge Medical Center,  Chris Ramsey, Manager, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee , Jason Taylor, President, Chattanooga Times Free Press and  Dan Wolfe, General Manager, Hamilton Place

So why have a “Pink Tie Guy,” isn’t there enough pink in this world? There are many ways to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Many choose to raise awareness and funds by participating in an event, such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. Some become an activist to achieve important legislative objectives.  Or often people simply make a monetary contribution. But no matter how people give, every bit helps support the Komen global mission of ending breast cancer.  Our program of the Komen Chattanooga “Pink Tie Guys” is designed as a new and unique way to “give.”

And who is a "Pink Tie Guy?"

·They are 12 men who live and work in the service area of the Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and believe in Komen’s mission to help put an end to breast cancer.

·They are busy people, but willing to “give” by being  part of something new and different that will help immensely in the fight against breast cancer.

·They are a business leader who doesn’t want to see our community lose another mother, sister, wife, daughter, co-worker, relative, or friend to breast cancer.

·They attend many community and business events throughout the year.

·They  are willing to add some exclusive “pink” to their wardrobe

The Affiliate’s hope is that each time a pink tie guy sports this special tie, it will lead to a conversation about breast cancer with someone they meet with that day. So their “give” may seem simple but it is helping to build greater breast cancer awareness, promote education, and bring the Komen messages to new and different audiences within our community.
